음악 앨범들 중에는 <모음집Compilation>이 있습니다. 또한 그 모음집에는 여러 뮤지션들의 노래들을 모아 편집해서 담은 모음 앨범Compilation Album by Various Artists도 있습니다.
그리고 이런 <여러 뮤지션 모음 앨범>에는 영화 삽입곡, 음악 페스티벌 참여 곡, 특정 레코드 레이블의 발표곡들의 편집 앨범뿐 아니라 같은 종류의 음악들을 따로 묶어 놓은 모음 앨범도 있습니다. 특히 <하위 장르별 록 음악 모음 앨범>들은 발매 당시에도 신선한 반향을 일으켰지만 시간이 지난 뒤에도 록의 족적을 살펴보는 경우 매우 중요한 의미를 가지고 있습니다.
정통 록은 <<Woodstock: Music from the original Soundtrack and More>>(1970), 60년대 중반의 거라지 록은 <<Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968>>(1972), No Wave는 <<No New York>>(1978)이 그 대표적인 예들입니다.
